Room Change

November 22, 2011

Yesterday, Dwan, Scott, Dave, and I surveyed the room for the Dixie Memory Makers Event. We came to the conclusion that the previously announced room (Dixie State College, North Instructional Building, Room 125) would not contain our activity. Actually, it wasn’t even close to being adequate. Next door, Room 126, is about twice as large. That is what we needed. The college had agreed to make the switch. I don’t think this will be all that confusing since the rooms are right next to each other. We can just post a few signs that direct people. Whew! We lucked out on that one! (Admittedly, I should have brought more folks into the original room request.) We will change whatever materials we can that list the room number, but frankly, the “horse is kinda out of the barn.” This should work out regardless.

So, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it! Peace!

Countdown: 20 Days

November 20, 2011

Yesterday was quite energetic for the team. We had our morning meeting with over 20 team members huddled around the breakfast table at Egg and I. The enthusiasm was over the top!

We have some tactical hurdles to overcome, but each of these found a satisfactory workaround as everyone put their heads and resources together. Talk about good Karma.

One thing that we all agreed on: The folks we are serving need to be given the utmost warmth, respect, and hospitality. The entire purpose of this event is to make their day a little brighter.

So much information surfaced, that yours truly forgot to ask someone to take notes. I will try to recall the important points and get them out today. Some notices will become articles on this blog site; other more individual reminders and agreements will be communicated directly via email.

We have one more meeting left on December 3. Hopefully everyone will attend since we are going to go over assignments and processes. Everyone on the team should be prepared in advance for the big day.

Tickets will be distributed Saturday

November 17, 2011

When we meet Saturday for our breakfast organizational meeting we will be distributing pre-numbered tickets as we agree on proportions. The bulk will go to partnering agencies to the extent that they have agreed to line up people for the event. Beyond that, team members may be able to take a couple of tickets to hand out to personal acquaintances that they are aware of that fall within our charitable guidelines. We’ll have to see on Saturday how this all plays out. If you want a say, you have to attend.

A sample of the ticket, in case you were wondering, can be viewed here: Sample Ticket [PDF]

While you are giving thanks, how about giving a hand?

November 14, 2011

The Dixie Memory Makers Team is just about complete, yet we still have openings in a few vital roles. Join us in making the holidays brighter for the less fortunate in our community. Here’s what team members we still need:

  • We need two more folks to help out on the print production team. If you have skills in Photoshop or Lightroom printing, please give us a call.
  • We need one (or two) more photographers. (Hard to imagine, isn’t it?) You need to have skills in studio posing and lighting.
  • We need two more hair stylists. CRITICAL SHORTAGE
  • We need three more makeup artists. CRITICAL SHORTAGE
  • We need two videographers.
  • We need acoustic entertainers.
  • We need a Santa.

Please contact Bob Kulon at 435-275-5975 or bkulon@hotmail.com this week before our meeting on 11/19.

The Countdown is On

November 14, 2011

We’ve got a whole lot of updates to push out today, so stay tuned.

First of all, there are

only 25 days left

until our Dixie Memory Makers event!

That’s right, less than a month.

December 10, 2011

Any holiday entertainers out there?

November 7, 2011

We’ve tried to get a few vocal or acoustic entertainers to help make the season bright during the Dixie Memory Makers event on December 10. No bites yet. We have a stage in the room. It would be great if some folks could step forward as volunteer performers. Here are some ideas:

Acoustic guitar / singer

Barbershop Quartet

Carolers

Children’s Choir

Magician

You don’t have to perform for any strict time commitment. The doors are open from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. One set, half hour to an hour, would be sufficient. (Of course, you can do more if you want. Take a break when you want.) We will not be using a sound system – that would be too overbearing. You will be on our video record of the event. Obviously, we can give you some photos of your performance. If you want to participate, give Bob a call at 435-275-5975 or email at bkulon@hotmail.com.

We need two videographers (or at least one)

November 6, 2011

It has always been our intent to produce a video record of our event for YouTube, Local news, and promoting future events. This would not be anything that singles out any “heroes” or subjects; just a celebration of mutual good will. We had hopes of having the college provide this production, but it seems like that is not to be. We won’t give up. The need is acute. If you and a friend are looking for a project to exercise your video skills for a good cause, join us now. Call Bob now at 435-275-5975.

Filling In The Blanks

November 5, 2011

We’ve pulled out all the stops to make our team known locally so we could have an established team by the time our November 19th meeting takes place. Day by day, things have filled in. We do have a few more opportunities to join us as a volunteer. Here are the remaining openings:

  • 2 more Photographers are needed. This role requires some studio portraiture experience. These are new positions since we need to give team members a break and we may add a 5th studio set.
  • 2 more Printing Specialists are needed. Lightroom printing experience required. Use your own equipment if you can. These are new positions since we need to give team members a break and we may add a 5th studio set.
  • 2 more setup-takedown-room Helpers are needed. These are probably the most fun positions on the team. You get to know everyone and help out everywhere.
  • 2 more Hair Stylists. We have these tentative roles promised by Paul Mitchell, but no real specifics. If anyone signs up before them – you have priority.
  • 3 more Makeup Artists. We have these tentative roles promised by Paul Mitchell, but no real specifics. If anyone signs up before them – you have priority.

Join this team and have a great time along with the blessings of personally participating in a heartfelt charity. Currently, we have 37 folks confirmed on the team.
